How do quetzals breathe?
Quetzals breathe through their lungs, just like other birds and mammals. They have a pair of lungs located on either side of their heart, which are connected to the windpipe. Quetzals breathe in oxygen-rich air through their nostrils and mouth, which travels down the windpipe and into the lungs. The oxygen is then absorbed by the blood in the capillaries of the lungs, and the carbon dioxide-rich air is exhaled back out through the nose and mouth.
