What is a pippestrelle?
Pipistrelle is a genus of bats that includes some of the most common and widely distributed bats in the world. These small bats are found throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa, and have been introduced to parts of North America and Australia. Pipistrelles are typically brown or gray in color, with short fur and small, rounded ears. They have a wingspan of about 20-25 centimeters and weigh between 5-12 grams. Pipistrelles are insectivorous, and feed primarily on flies, mosquitoes, and other small flying insects. They are also known for their ability to echolocate, which allows them to navigate and find prey in complete darkness.
