Where did dodo birds live?
The dodo bird (Raphus cucullatus) was endemic to the island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar. Mauritius was previously uninhabited by humans, which allowed the dodo bird to evolve without natural predators. However, with the arrival of humans and introduced species such as dogs and pigs in the 16th century, the dodo bird population rapidly declined due to hunting, habitat destruction, and competition for food. This eventually led to the extinction of the dodo bird by the late 17th century.
