How to Register a Caught Wild Mink

Laws exist to regulate the capture and keeping of certain animals. There is no federal law dealing with registering caught wild animals, but the states -- and some municipalities -- have laws governing the issue. Despite the geographic variation in laws, there are some general steps you should follow in order to bring your caught wild mink within the confines of the law.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your state Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Game and inquire about the registration requirements in your jurisdiction.

    • 2

Check if minks are classified in your jurisdiction as dangerous wild animals, that private citizens are not permitted to keep. Such animals may include cheetahs, bobcats, gorillas and lions, among others. Minks are often kept as household pets, so it's unlikely that keeping a wild mink will be forbidden by law.

    • 3

Fill out and file any requisite paperwork with the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Game.

    • 4

Take the mink to a licensed veterinarian to verify that the animal is healthy and in a state in which it can be kept in captivity.
