What do the hyenas prey on?

The hyena is primarily a scavenger, feeding on the carcasses of animals killed by other predators or those that have died from natural causes. However, hyenas are also opportunistic predators and will actively hunt for food when necessary. Some of their preferred prey include zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, impalas, and antelopes. They are known to hunt both large and small animals, including calves and adult herbivores. Hyenas have a strong bite force and powerful jaws that enable them to crush bones and devour their prey.
