What animal will eat foxtail plants?

Rabbits:

* Will often eat the upper, more palatable portions of foxtail plants.

* Young, smaller rabbits may eat large amounts of greens if foxtail is the only available forage

Birds:

* Primarily game birds (especially grouse) consume foxtail seeds.

* Some game bird diets made up over 50% foxtail

Cattle and Other Large Animals:

* If other palatable forages are not available, cows and horses will eat foxtail.

* Cattle eat leaves and seed heads (but not the awn)

* Young animals are susceptible to damage from this plant

* Consumption can cause “foxtail mouth” which will cause sores in the mouth and esophagus

Grasshoppers and Other Insects:
