How long do the red fox kits stay in den?

The red fox kits leave the den when they are about 5-7 weeks old, but will stay within a short distance of the den until they are about 3-4 months old, when they begin to venture further afield. In the meantime, they will continue to be fed by their parents, although they may also start to supplement their diet with small prey items that they find. The parents will also continue to teach the kits how to hunt, survive, and avoid danger. By the time they are fully independent, the kits will have developed all of the skills that they need to survive on their own.
