How long has the red fox been around?

The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is one of the most widely distributed mammals in the world, found on every continent except Antarctica. It is believed to have originated in North America during the Pleistocene epoch, around 2.5 million years ago. From there, it spread to Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. Red foxes are adaptable and opportunistic predators, able to survive in a wide range of habitats. They are found in forests, grasslands, deserts, and even urban areas.
