Does the colossal squid go to surface breathe?

The colossal squid (Mesonychoteutis hamiltoni) is a deep-sea dwelling cephalopod, found in all oceans. It is the largest known squid species, with specimens estimated to grow up to 14 meters (46 feet) long and weighing over 2,000 kilograms (4,400 pounds).

The colossal squid is not known to come to the surface to breathe. It lives in the deep ocean, typically between 200 and 2,000 meters (650 to 6,500 feet) deep. It is believed to use its large fins and powerful jet propulsion to move through the water and hunt for prey.

The colossal squid is thought to be a predator of deep-sea fish and squid. It has been known to attack sperm whales and may also feed on other large marine mammals.

Although there have been several attempts to capture and study the colossal squid alive, none have been successful. As such, there is still much that is unknown about this mysterious creature.
