Did whales ever walk on the earth?

Whales evolved from terrestrial artiodactyls, a group of hoofed mammals that includes hippopotamuses and deer, and it diverged into separate lineages tens of millions of years ago. This means that there was a time in the distant past when whales' ancestors walked on land, but modern whales are highly adapted for aquatic life and are not capable of terrestrial locomotion.
