Are blue whales related to mammoths?

Blue whales and mammoths are not closely related. Blue whales are marine mammals, while mammoths were land-based mammals. Blue whales are part of the Balaenopteridae family, which also includes other baleen whales such as humpback whales and fin whales. Mammoths are part of the Elephantidae family, which also includes modern-day elephants. Blue whales and mammoths are both members of the taxonomic family Mammalia, but their branches of the mammalian family tree diverged long ago.
