What does whale blubber feel like?
The texture of whale blubber varies depending on the species of whale and the location of the blubber on the body. In general, blubber is a thick, oily layer of fat that feels soft and gelatinous to the touch. It is composed of a network of connective tissue fibers that trap oil droplets, giving it a spongy consistency. The blubber of some whale species, such as the sperm whale, can be up to 12 inches thick and is very dense and firm. The blubber of other species, such as the humpback whale, is thinner and more fluid.
