Do llamas keep mates for life?

Llamas are not known to keep mates for life. While they can form strong bonds and live in social groups, they are not monogamous.

Here's why:

* Social Structure: Llamas live in herds led by a dominant male. Within a herd, there may be multiple males, and females typically mate with the dominant male.

* Seasonal Breeding: Llamas have a distinct breeding season, and females usually only come into heat for a short period.

* Competition: There's often competition for mates within a herd, especially during breeding season.

While some individuals may have a preference for certain partners, llama relationships are generally based on social hierarchy and breeding opportunities rather than lifelong monogamy.
