How many types of llamas are there?

There is only one species of llama, *Lama glama*.

However, within that species, there are two distinct types:

* Llamas: These are the larger variety, primarily used for pack animals and fiber production.

* Alpaca: These are smaller and have a finer fleece than llamas. They are primarily raised for their wool.

It's important to note that alpaca is considered a *separate breed* within the *Lama glama* species.
