Instructions

    • 1

Catch the llama and have someone hold him still. Special halters exist for llamas and will be useful when giving them shots.

    • 2

Prepare the medication or vaccination before approaching the llama. Have the needle and syringe ready to inject before the llama is held still. This will keep him from getting bored quickly or having time to resist.

    • 3

Find out whether to inject just below the skin or in the muscle. The directions on the bottle should tell you.

    • 4

Pull the skin up slightly in a wool-free area just behind the front leg, or in front of the rear leg for a shot just under the skin. Insert the needle about 1/2-inch, and inject the medication or vaccine.

    • 5

Reach behind the llama and find the large muscle on the top of the rear leg for a shot into the muscle. Insert the needle, and then pull back slightly to make sure you are not getting blood back in the needle. If not, go ahead and administer the shot. If you see blood, pull the needle out and insert it again in a different spot.
