How large are sea horse litters?
Seahorses give birth to live young. The male seahorse carries the fertilized eggs in a pouch on his belly until they are ready to be born. Typically this ranges in the hundreds up to a thousand per litter. The smallest litter of a seahorse is that of the pygmy seahorse, with between 10-20 per brood. The largest litter of seahorses in the world comes from the species Hippocampus comes. This species gives birth to between 1000 to as many as 1500 young per litter.
