How many mates do gorillas have?

Gorillas are not monogamous. While they may have a primary mate, they don't restrict themselves to just one partner.

Here's a breakdown:

* Silverback males: These dominant males lead a group of females (usually 5-10) and their offspring. They are the primary mates for the females in their group.

* Females: Females will typically mate with the silverback, but can also mate with other males in the group or even males from neighboring groups.

* Other males: While they are not dominant, other males in the group may still have the opportunity to mate with females, especially if the silverback is aging or weakened.

So, while gorillas don't have a set number of mates, their social structure is more like a polygynous system, where one male mates with multiple females.
