How many vertebrae does a monkey have?

Like humans, monkeys have 33 vertebrae. They are broken down into the same five regions:

* Cervical: 7 vertebrae in the neck

* Thoracic: 12 vertebrae in the chest

* Lumbar: 5 vertebrae in the lower back

* Sacral: 5 fused vertebrae in the pelvis

* Coccygeal: 4 fused vertebrae in the tailbone (this number can vary slightly)

While the number of vertebrae is the same, the specific shapes and sizes can vary slightly depending on the species of monkey.
