How many types of monkey species are there?

There are around 264 recognized species of monkeys, depending on which classification system you use. This number can fluctuate as new species are discovered or existing species are reclassified.

It's important to remember that "monkey" is a very broad term and includes a wide variety of primates. They are generally divided into two major groups:

* New World monkeys: Found in Central and South America. These monkeys have prehensile tails (tails that can grasp objects).

* Old World monkeys: Found in Africa and Asia. They do not have prehensile tails but have cheek pouches for storing food.

Within these two groups, there are many different families, genera, and species, each with their own unique characteristics and adaptations.
