What is a dorsal mean?

Dorsal refers to the upper or back surface of an animal or plant, as opposed to the ventral or lower surface. In humans, the dorsal side of the body is the back, while the ventral side is the front. In plants, the dorsal side of a leaf is the upper surface, while the ventral side is the lower surface.

The term "dorsal" is also used in anatomy to refer to the structures located on the back or upper surface of an organism. For example, the dorsal fin of a fish is located on the back of the fish, while the dorsal root ganglia are located on the back of the spinal cord.

The opposite of dorsal is ventral.
