Do lions only live in Africa?

Lions (Panthera leo) are native to Africa and Asia, but their geographic distribution has declined significantly in recent centuries. Historically, lions were found throughout much of Africa, south of the Sahara Desert, and in various regions of Asia, including parts of India, Iran, and the Arabian Peninsula.

In Africa, lions are found in various countries, including:

1. Botswana

2. Kenya

3. Namibia

4. Tanzania

5. Zambia

6. Zimbabwe

7. South Africa

In Asia, lions are found only in a small population in the Gir Forest National Park in Gujarat, India. This population is known as the Asiatic lions, and it is critically endangered, with a population estimated to be around 650 individuals.

Outside of their natural habitats, lions can also be found in zoos and wildlife parks around the world. These captive populations are managed for conservation and educational purposes.

It's worth noting that the lion population has experienced a decline in recent years due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflicts. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect lion populations and their habitats to ensure their long-term survival.
