Who is the Monkey King?

Sun Wukong (孫悟空), also known as the Monkey King, is a legendary figure in Chinese folklore and literature, and a prominent, central character in the 16th-century epic Chinese novel _Journey to the West_.

Sun Wukong is a powerful monkey who rebels against the gods of heaven, claiming the title of 'Great Sage Equal to Heaven'. He is later subdued and imprisoned by the Buddha under a mountain for 500 years, but is eventually freed to accompany the Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang (唐三藏) on a journey to India to retrieve sacred Buddhist texts.

Along the way, Sun Wukong encounters various demons, monsters, and other challenges. He uses his superhuman abilities, magical powers, and a magical weapon, the 'Ruyi Jingu Bang' (如意金箍棒), a retractable iron staff that can change its size, to protect Tang Sanzang and his fellow travelers.

Sun Wukong is known for his mischievous nature, rebellious spirit, and loyalty to his master. He is considered a trickster figure, often employing his cunning and trickery to outsmart his enemies. He possesses various magical abilities, including shapeshifting, cloning, flying, and the power of 72 transformations, allowing him to take on different forms and animals.
