How fast does an opossum run?

Opossums are surprisingly fast runners for their size, especially when they need to escape danger. However, there isn't one specific speed that applies to all opossums. It depends on several factors like:

* Species: Different opossum species have different sizes and body structures, which affect their speed.

* Individual fitness: Like all animals, some opossums are naturally faster than others.

* Terrain: Rough terrain slows them down, while flat surfaces allow for higher speeds.

* Motivation: When threatened, an opossum will run much faster than when it's just casually moving around.

Generally, though, opossums can reach speeds of up to 12 miles per hour (mph) in short bursts. That's about the same speed as a human jogging!

Keep in mind that they're not built for sustained speed, so they'll tire quickly.
