Is the platypus only mammal in Australia?

That's not quite right! While the platypus is definitely a unique and iconic Australian mammal, it's not the only one.

Australia is home to a wide variety of mammals, including:

* Marsupials: These are mammals that give birth to relatively undeveloped young, which then complete their development in a pouch. Examples include kangaroos, koalas, wombats, and Tasmanian devils.

* Monotremes: This group includes the platypus and echidnas. They lay eggs, but also have other mammal characteristics like mammary glands and fur.

So, the platypus is special because it's one of only two monotremes in the world, but Australia has many other fascinating mammal species!
