How many types of opossums are there in north America?

There are two types of opossums commonly found in North America:

1. Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana): This is the most common opossum in North America. It's found throughout the eastern and central United States, and parts of Canada and Mexico.

2. Water opossum (Chironectes minimus): This species is a semi-aquatic opossum found primarily in the southeastern United States, particularly in Florida.

There are other opossum species found in Central and South America, but these two are the only ones native to North America.
