What is an ovisac?

Ovisac is also referred to as the ovarian follicle. Its role involves the encapsulation of the ova of animals during their developmental phase known as embryogenesis. Once these reach certain milestones of development, an ovisac bursts open to enable their exit. Thus, ovisacs provide protection to ova by housing them and also ensure timely liberation once development completes. Ovisacs may also be connected with processes regulating internal environment, providing sustenance, or releasing important biochemical signaling cues.
