What does a premolar do?

Premolars also known as bicuspids are used to grind food down into smaller pieces. Premolars are located in both the dental arch of the mandible (lower jaw) and the maxilla (upper jaw).

Types of Premolars

There are two types of premolars

1. First Premolars: These are located behind the canine teeth and in front of the second premolars. These are the first permanent teeth to grow in and are usually visible before the age of 10.

2. Second Premolars: These are located behind the first premolars and in front of the molars. These usually grow before the age of 12.
