* Newly hatched chicks are covered with white down.
* The feathers on their heads, wings, and tails are tipped with black (sometimes called "bicolor down").
* Around 4-5 weeks, they go through their first molt and begin to grow brown and white juvenile feathers.
* By the time they are 8 weeks old, they have lost all of their down and are completely covered in brown and white feathers.

* Hatch weight is approximately 55-65 grams.
*By the time they are ready to fledge, they will weigh about 2.25 kg (5 lbs) and have a wingspan of about 1.5 m (5 feet).
