How long do opossum live?

Opossums have an average lifespan of 1 to 2 years in the wild. As a result of their fast metabolism and high susceptibility to disease, mortality is high even during their first year of life. However, some opossums have been known to live for up to 4 years in captivity which they are provided with food and shelter.
