Can cougars live in a neighborhood?

While it is uncommon, there have been instances of cougars living in the vicinity of neighborhoods or residential areas. However, their primary habitat remains more remote, undisturbed natural environments. Their territorial behaviors and avoidance of humans generally lead them to stay away from developed neighborhoods. However, if certain factors, such as food availability or a reduction in natural prey, arise, a cougar may venture into a neighborhood in search of sustenance. If there are significant encounters, wildlife authorities are usually involved to address these unusual situations.
