Where do red wolves exist?

Red wolves exist in two main locations:

* The wild: Red wolves are found in the eastern North Carolina coastal plain, specifically within the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and its surrounding areas. This is where a reintroduction program has been ongoing since 1987, helping to restore the species.

* Captivity: Red wolves are also found in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries across the United States and even internationally. These captive populations are essential for conservation efforts, breeding programs, and research.

It's important to note that the red wolf population in the wild is critically endangered, with only a few hundred individuals estimated to remain.
