How did Wolf Point MT get its name?
The town of Wolf Point, Montana, derived its name from an incident involving a wolf. In 1878, a steamboat named the "Far West," captained by Grant Marsh, was traveling up the Missouri River when it encountered a large wolf on a sandbar. The wolf was reportedly so large that it appeared to be "half dog and half wolf." Captain Marsh and his crew decided to name the nearby point of land "Wolf Point" in honor of the impressive creature.
