Coursing: Coyotes can also chase down prey over long distances. They are capable of running up to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) for short distances and can sustain speeds of 15-20 miles per hour (24-32 km/h) for longer periods of time.
Scavenging: Coyotes are also opportunistic scavengers and will feed on carrion (dead animals). They may search for carcasses left behind by other predators, such as wolves, bears, or mountain lions.
Cooperative hunting: Coyotes sometimes hunt in packs, which can improve their chances of success. They may coordinate their efforts to chase down prey or surround it, making it easier to catch.
Prey selection: Coyotes prey on a wide variety of animals, including rodents, rabbits, hares, deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. They may also prey on birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.
