What are facts mountain lions?

Mountain lions (_Puma concolor_):

* Also known as cougars, pumas, and catamounts.

* Largest cats in the Americas.

* Solitary and highly territorial.

* Ambush predators, taking down deer, elk, and other large prey.

* Can leap up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) vertically and 40 feet (12 meters) horizontally.

* Have excellent eyesight and hearing.

* Can run up to 50 mph (80 kph) for short distances.

* Primarily nocturnal, but can be active during the day.

* Typically live in mountainous regions, but found in a variety of habitats.

* Range from Canada to South America.

* Listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, but populations are declining in some areas due to habitat loss and hunting.
