Things You'll Need
- Nesting Box
Instructions
Select the optimum hen and rooster to obtain blue wheaten chickens. If you breed two blue wheatens together the clutch will approximately consist of half blue, one-quarter black and one-quarter splash colors. Breeding blue and black or splash chickens will yield half blue and half black or splash chicks. Poultry Keepers, a poultry enthusiast group, recommends breeding splash and black chickens together to achieve 100 percent blue chicks. The chicks will vary in shade and quality, but all will be blue.
Provide a nesting box for the pullet, or hen. The nesting box must be large enough for the hens to stand, at least 12 by 12 by 12 inches. Allow one box for every two to four hens.
Place the rooster with the pullet. Separate your chosen rooster and pullet to ensure you breed the desired color combination to achieve wheaten blue chickens.
