How to Hatch Peacock Eggs

Peacocks are large, flightless pheasants known for their striking colors. These birds can be raised almost anywhere as long is there are moderately warm temperatures and a large open space. One of the most important tasks when you raise peacocks is to hatch their eggs. Peacocks can generally do this on their own, but the egg hatching rate isn't always as high as one would hope for. With the right tools and technique, you can ensure the maximum hatching rate from your peacock eggs.

Clean and set up the incubator. Install a thermometer and hygrometer in a spot that is easily visible. Provide a temperature between 99.5 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit with a humidity between 86 and 88. Raise the humidity by adding water to the water tray or trough. If necessary, open vents to let humidity out. Let the incubator retain this constant temperature and humidity level for at least two days before you put the eggs in.

Place straw in the bottom of the incubator to provide a soft surface for the eggs. Mark each egg with a number using a marker. Place the eggs in the incubator with the number facing up.

    • 3

Turn the eggs 180 degrees five times per day. Use the numbers on the eggs to determine how far you are turning them. If the number is either facing straight up or straight down, you know you turned it 180 degrees.

Continue turning the eggs for 28 days. On the 28th day, increase the humidity to 90 and wait for the eggs to hatch.
