How to Make a Homemade Incubator for Chicken Eggs

While there are still farm owners who depend on their broody hen to hatch chicken eggs, not everyone has the time and patience to wait for this to happen. Moreover, your broody hen can only sit on a particular number of eggs at a time. Instead of allowing your chicken eggs to sit in one corner and wait for their time to hatch, put the eggs in a homemade incubator. You do not need to buy an incubator to hatch your chicken eggs, you can simply make one at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the box on a flat surface with one of the long sides facing up. Use your measuring tape to measure 2 inches from the edge of the box moving around its side. Mark the 2-inch path using a pencil to create a framed opening in the box's long side.

    • 2

Place the glass above the opening. Secure it with tape to seal the edges and to prevent air from coming through. This will serve as the incubator's viewing window.

    • 3

Tip over the box, allowing the glass to face the bottom surface. Cut a hole for the light socket by with your cutter in the side of the box opposite your glass.

    • 4

Insert the socket by running the electrical cord from the inside of your box through the hole. Use tape to secure the sides of the socket and to seal its edges.

    • 5

Screw the light bulb in the socket using your fingers. Turn the box back up to locate the glass in front while the light bulb is at the back.

    • 6

Secure the thermometer to the inside of the box with tape. Place the thermometer on the same side as your light socket's box so that you can see it through the glass.

    • 7

Fill your pie tin with water and position it at the bottom of the box. Get your eggs and place them inside the box right next to the water.

    • 8

Turn on the light of the incubator by plugging it in an electric socket. The light bulb will generate the heat inside the box.
