Things You'll Need
- Chicken egg incubator
- Fertile chicken eggs
Instructions
Contact a local small farmer, or two, raising chickens for home use and ask to visit to learn about hatching chicken eggs. Some farmers allow hens to hatch the eggs while others hatch eggs in incubators. Incubators commercially bought or homemade all have the same need of maintaining the correct temperature and humidity.
Visit a commercial hatchery. A streamlined process with modern equipment runs differently than home incubation of a few eggs. In many areas, a short drive and time spent touring a hatchery will teach you about hatching chicken eggs on a large-scale.
Set up your incubator, purchase fertile chicken eggs and hatch your own eggs at home. Learning about and seeing eggs hatch first-hand offers a good experience for all ages. Keep the incubator temperature at 99 to 102 degrees and the humidity high. Turn the eggs twice daily. In 21 days, chicks start to hatch.
