How far do wildebeest migrate?

The Serengeti wildebeest migration is one of the largest migrations of herbivores in the world, with over 1.5 million wildebeest taking part. During the migration, the animals travel over 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) in a clockwise pattern through the Serengeti ecosystem in East Africa. They graze on the lush grasslands and water sources on their journey, following the rains that provide the necessary nutrients for the plants they eat. The migration is an essential part of the ecosystem, as it helps to maintain the balance between the grasslands and forests, as well as providing a food source for predators.
