How to Attach Wheels to a Chicken Tractor

You can move a chicken tractor from one area of the yard to another to give the chickens fresh grass and keep the grass growing. If the chicken tractor is too large, though, you may have difficulty moving it unless you attach wheels.

Things You'll Need

  • Chicken tractor made out of cattle panels
  • Drill with 3/4-inch bit
  • 2, 3/4-inch bolts with washers and nuts
  • Cinder block
  • 2, 6-inch wheels with 3/4-inch center

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a 3/4-inch hole in the center of the 2-by-4 frame about 1 foot from the opposite end of where you'll pull the chicken tractor from. Do this on each side of the chicken tractor. The hole should allow for the wheel to lift the chicken tractor about 1 inch.

    • 2

Place a washer on the bolt and put it through the hole from the inside of the chicken tractor to the outside.

    • 3

Lift the frame of the chicken tractor onto cinder blocks so you can place the wheel on the bolt then secure it with another washer and a nut.

    • 4

Reduce the load even more with an additional set of wheels placed at the other end of the chicken tractor. This set should be placed on the opposite side of the 2-by-4 from the original set.
