What is animal tissue made up of?

Animal tissue is composed of cells and extracellular material. Cells are the basic unit of life and are responsible for carrying out various functions within the body. Extracellular material is the substance that surrounds and supports the cells. It is made up of a complex mixture of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.

The four primary types of animal tissues are:

* Epithelial tissue covers the surfaces of the body and lines the internal organs. It protects the body from the environment and helps to regulate the passage of substances into and out of the body.

* Connective tissue supports and connects the different tissues and organs of the body. It also stores fat, provides insulation, and helps to protect the body from injury.

* Muscle tissue is responsible for movement. There are three types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle.

* Nervous tissue is responsible for transmitting information throughout the body. It is made up of neurons, which are specialized cells that conduct electrical impulses.
