Before you begin changing the oil on your John Deere F525 lawn mower, make sure you have the following materials:
- A new oil filter
- New oil (Refer to your owner's manual for the correct type and amount of oil)
- A funnel
- An oil drain pan
- A wrench
Instructions
1. Prepare the mower. Park the mower on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely if it has been running. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels.
2. Locate the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine. It is typically a black or silver bolt with a 13 mm hex head.
3. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug. Make sure the drain pan is large enough to catch all of the oil that will drain out.
4. Loosen the oil drain plug. Use a 13 mm wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil drain pan.
5. Allow the oil to drain. Allow all of the old oil to drain out. This may take a few minutes.
6. Replace the oil drain plug. Once all of the old oil has drained out, replace the oil drain plug. Tighten the plug until it is snug.
7. Locate the oil filter. The oil filter is located on the top of the engine, near the back. It is usually a cylindrical-shaped object with a black or silver cap.
8. Remove the oil filter. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
9. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the new oil filter gasket. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
10. Screw on the new oil filter. Hand-tighten the oil filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
11. Add new oil to the engine. Use a funnel to add new oil to the engine. Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
12. Check the oil level. Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
13. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
14. Check for leaks. Look underneath the mower for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten any loose bolts or repair any damaged gaskets.
