1.Gather your materials.
You will need:
* New transmission fluid (John Deere recommends John Deere Hy-Gard Transmission Fluid)
* A funnel
* A wrench
* A drain pan
* Rags
2.Prepare the lawn tractor.
* Turn off the engine and park the lawn tractor on a level surface.
* Engage the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool down completely.
3.Locate the transmission fluid drain plug.
The transmission fluid drain plug is located on the bottom of the transmission housing.
4.Place the drain pan under the drain plug.
Make sure that the drain pan is large enough to catch all of the transmission fluid that will drain out.
5.Loosen the drain plug.
Use the wrench to loosen the transmission fluid drain plug.
6.Allow the transmission fluid to drain out.
Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain out of the transmission housing.
7.Replace the drain plug.
Once all of the transmission fluid has drained out, replace the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug snugly with the wrench.
8.Locate the transmission oil fill plug.
9.Add new transmission fluid.
Use the funnel to add new transmission fluid to the transmission housing. Add enough transmission fluid to bring the fluid level to the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
10.Check the transmission fluid level.
Make sure that the transmission fluid level is at the "Full" mark on the dipstick. If necessary, add more transmission fluid.
11.Start the engine.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
12.Check for leaks.
Look under the tractor for transmission fluid leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the drain plug or fill plug until the leaks stop.
That's it! You have now successfully changed the transmission fluid on your John Deere LA145 lawn tractor.
