What types of deer live in Alabama?

Alabama is home to three main types of deer:

* White-tailed deer: This is the most common deer species in Alabama, and they are found throughout the state. They are known for their distinctive white tail and are a popular game animal.

* Mule deer: These deer are found in the northwestern corner of Alabama, along the Tennessee border. They have larger ears than white-tailed deer, giving them their name.

* Sika deer: These deer are a non-native species that were introduced to Alabama in the 1900s. They are smaller than white-tailed deer and have reddish-brown fur. They are considered an invasive species and are not as widely distributed as the other two species.

While less common, Fallow deer have also been reported in Alabama, particularly in the northern regions. They were likely introduced through escapes from private game preserves.
