How to Build a Small Egg Turner

Incubators are used to regulate the temperature of fertilized eggs before being hatched. In nature, the mother will heat the eggs by sitting on them. But once they are moved from the mother's nest, the eggs must be heated using light. To make sure these eggs receive plenty of heat, they must be turned. While you can do this by hand, making a egg turner is much more convenient.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the inside of the incubator with the ruler. This will help determine the exact size the egg turner should be. Cut the egg cup bottoms off the cardboard egg carton with the knife. Measure the carton. The size of the turner is based on the size of the carton.

    • 2

Use a hand saw to cut the PVC pieces so they match the measurements of incubator. Remember to consider the size of the elbows and T joints when cutting. This will give you four short pieces of PVC and two long pieces.

    • 3

Assemble the six pieces of PVC pipe together with PVC cement glue. Place the longer pieces on each end and the shorter lengths in the middle with the T joint. This will give you a rectangular shape. Turn the unconnected end of the T joint so it points outward.

    • 4

Place the four-sided frame just assembled up through the incubator. Put the egg carton into the frame and use a pencil to mark the location of the T joint. Make a hole with a jigsaw in the incubator where the T joint is so it is a bit larger than the PVC pipes.

Use the handsaw to cut an additional piece of 2-foot PVC pipe in half. Place the cut ends of the PVC through the holes made with the jigsaw. Place the end of the pipe into the T joint. Use PVC cement to secure the pieces together.
