How to Stop a Baby Goose From Honking

Geese naturally honk and squawk, and getting them to hush requires a lot of preparation. Geese emit approximately a dozen different type of honks while in flight or to communicate with fellow birds. According to the Daily Mail Online, goose owners may be forced to pay fines if a bird's honking disturbs neighborhood residents on a regular basis. Goslings, or baby geese, can begin honking while in the egg. The trick to keeping goslings quiet is to prepare for the challenge before breeding begins.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or breed a quiet goose. Choose a naturally quiet breed, such as Buff or Tufted Romans geese, for example, as opposed to loud Chinese or African varieties.

    • 2

Give goslings plenty of water and food. Feed goslings fresh grasses, roots, leaves, oats or cracked corn. Position a water trough in a central location where it is kept cool and covered by shade. Place fresh food out on a daily basis and never let a goose go hungry. Goslings will honk when they are hungry.

Raise goslings on an individual basis. Keep goslings away from other geese, especially different breeds. Goslings will honk and squawk continuously when surrounded by other geese. Goslings will also honk aggressively when claiming territory over another goose.
