How to Hypnotize a Pet Chicken

Magicians pull rabbits out of top hats to amaze and entertain their audience. Other entertainers perform disappearing acts to astound the riveted crowd of onlookers. You too can hold your audience captive, or at least your pet chicken, by practicing the art of hypnotism. According to an article by Linda Riggins in "The 1985 Old Farmer's Almanac," Dr. Doris White has demonstrated this skill of hypnotizing chickens.

Instructions

  1. Oscillating Finger Method

    • 1

Gently lay the chicken on one side with the wing under the body and the head flat on a table.

    • 2

Place one finger from your free hand close to the bird's beak, but don't touch the beak. Keep your finger on the table and pull it 4 inches away from the beak.

    • 3

Repeat the back and forth action until the chicken is hypnotized. The bird should be hypnotized in five to six tries.

    Sternum Stroke Method

    • 4

Hold the chicken with both hands and gently turn the chicken over on its back. Release one hand from the bird.

    • 5

Place a book or other object against one side of the chicken. This will keep the chicken from rolling to the side after it has been hypnotized.

    • 6

Softly massage the sternum with the thumb and index finger of your free hand. Times will vary, but in about three to four minutes the chicken will be hypnotized.
