How to Buy Fertile Goose Eggs

Successfully hatching goslings starts with finding good eggs and then handling them carefully until they go into an incubator. While individual buyers and sellers may have distinct preferences, there are loosely established best packaging protocols and shipping practices.
  1. Places to Buy Eggs

    • Fertile hatching eggs can be obtained through hatcheries, online auction sites such as eBay, online hobbyist sites, directly from breeders or from local farms. The local extension service office or conservation district may have suggestions for farmers in the area.

    Making a Purchase

    • Do not purchase eggs in excessive heat or cold. Make sure the eggs are no more than five days old before you will receive them. If you live on a rural route, have the eggs held at the post office for pickup.

    Shipping Considerations

    • Eggs need to be shipped using Priority Mail. Most sellers have a disclaimer that releases them from liability for damages caused in transit. However, each egg should be individually wrapped and cushioned for the trip.

    Damaged Eggs

    • Sellers sometimes ship extra eggs in case one or two break during shipping. If the eggs arrive and have not been packaged to withstand normal shipping conditions, contact the seller with photos ready to email. A refund or replacements may be negotiated.
