How to Potty Train a Pet Pig

Contrary to their dirty mud-lounging reputation, pigs are actually very clean, intelligent animals that make wonderful pets. These loyal animals can add a touch of absurdity and fun to a household that no other animal can. You can teach your pig tricks, and you can even potty train him. Potty training your pet pig can be accomplished in a short amount of time using a little hard work and a few pig treats.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed your pig and give it water at the same time every day. This will give you a sense of when the pig will need to go outdoors.

    • 2

Take your pig outdoors to "use the bathroom" every two hours. Once outside, say the word "potty" each time the pig is eliminating. Your pig will eventually associate the word "potty" with doing the deed, which will turn "potty" into a command.

    • 3

Place a collar and leash on your pet each time you take it outdoors. This will help keep the pig in a controlled area. If the pig cannot roam on his own, he will void more quickly.

    • 4

Take your pet pig indoors immediately after he voids. This will teach him that when he goes outdoors, it is to potty ... not to play.

    • 5

Give the pig a treat, which can be purchased at most pet supply stores. The pig will associate voiding outdoors with a reward.
