What animals have a notochord?

A notochord is a flexible rod-like structure that forms the main axial support in the embryos of all chordates, including vertebrates. It is derived from the mesoderm, and it runs along the dorsal side of the embryo, from the head to the tail. In vertebrates, the notochord is eventually replaced by the vertebral column. However, in some chordates, such as tunicates and lancelets, the notochord persists throughout adulthood.

Here are some examples of animals that have a notochord:

* Vertebrates:

* Fish

* Amphibians

* Reptiles

* Birds

* Mammals

* Invertebrates:

* Tunicates

* Lancelets

* Hagfishes
